The hidden costs of growing your food 🪴

Good morning!
Ashlea and I recently started growing vegetables and herbs for ourselves. It’s been a huge learning experience figuring out how to germinate seeds, replant seedlings, and take care of different plants.

The hope is to create our infinite food hack (in the little space we have), but there are some upfront costs that are hard to avoid (keep reading).

DEFINITION
What is a bond?

  • No not a family member of James Bond, and no not a close connection with someone

  • A bond is like lending money. When you buy a bond, you're giving a loan to a company or government. They promise to pay you back the money you lent, plus some extra called interest, after a certain amount of time. It's a way for them to borrow money, and for you to earn money on your savings!

PRACTICAL ADVICE
If you’re thinking of starting a veggie garden?

  • Planters can get expensive for no reason! All they do is carry dirt, so find containers in your garage you don’t use; or go to Facebook marketplace to get some heavily discounted planters.

  • DO NOT buy the peat pot seedling starter kits. Find a plastic seedling starter kit, because you can reuse it; and it’s less of a pain to take the seedlings out to transfer.
