What the heck is "loud budgeting"?
Good morning!
We had quite a few of you subscribe to the newsletter after watching me cut up a credit card. I’m glad you’re here! Social media is so good at connecting people who are like-minded and trying to reach similar goals. So welcome!
DEFINITION
Ever heard of this “loud budgeting” trend?
If you’re anywhere near Tiktok, there’s this new trend called “Loud Budgeting.” And this is probably the only trend from Tiktok that I can hop on.
Basically, loud budgeting is a way to say no to friends, family, and people that invite you to spend money when you don’t want to.
It’s not about being rude. It’s about drawing a boundary, and not having to explain yourself. For example, if your friends want you to buy Coachella tickets (but you’re saving up for a car), you can say “No thanks, I’m okay.”
It’s also NOT saying, “I don’t have the money to spend.” Loud budgeting is about taking ownership by saying “I am choosing not to spend.”
Honestly, when I first heard of the trend I thought it literally meant yelling “LOUD BUDGETING” whenever someone wants you to spend money you don’t want to lol.
PRACTICAL ADVICE
Don’t obsess over your credit score
Today I’m dropping a video about a friend who cared TOO MUCH about his credit score, and how that it led him to make poor financial decisions.
If you’re taking out different kinds of loans or opening new credit cards for the sake of building your credit score, you gotta reevaluate (Finance bros will attack me for this statement).
Tomorrow we’ll talk about the real purpose of a credit score
HELPFUL RESOURCES
Use the budgeting app I use
It’s called EveryDollar. I’ve been using it for the past 4 years, and it’s the simplest; quickest way that Ashlea and I make a budget each month and stick to it.
